New Year, Same Artists, New Sound

Who knew this decade would be the years of artist comebacks and collaborations across generations. We listed some upcoming releases that will take you back in time and remind you of the impact some of the earlier artists had on more recent ones.

Three years since Britney Spears' album "Glory (Deluxe)" released worldwide and 24 years since her first album "...Baby One More Time", she's back with another hit and this time she's bringing with her another early 2000s iconic artist. Black Eyed Peas' Will.i.am headed to the studio with the pop princess in their latest single "Mind Your Business" where we can't help but feel all of the nostalgia. Billboard | Hannah Dailey

Disney's Demi Lovato has been making a name for herself in the back 10 years within the music industry through hit albums, sold out tours, and more. Throughout the beginning of 2023, she's been dipping her toe into the world of Rock music and has re-recorded some of her biggest hits with a twist. "Cool for the Summer", "Heart Attack", and most recently "Sorry Not Sorry" have been given another tone as they shy away from their pop center to a more rock and punk focus. Despite Demi releasing a new album in 2021, she took us back in time with some of her earlier tracks from 2013.

Ever since pop punk became resurfacing in more recent years, the bands within this genre have been regaining popularity, and being rediscovered within the younger generations. One of which is Paramore. From their emotional and addictive tracks to the pure vocal talent of lead singer Hayley Williams, it's no surprise that Gen Z is adoring this newfound genre. Newer artists such as Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo even shared the stage with the early 2000s punk band to celebrate the impact they've had on music and brought two worlds together for us.

Between Elton John's collaboration with pop singers Britney Spears, Dua Lipa, and more, he's hopping back into the current music space and embracing some of the leading artists of the more recent decades. The singles "Cold Heart" and "Hold Me Closer" both topped the charts and became some of the biggest songs on the radio and streaming platforms. Between the nostalgic odes to some of his biggest songs to the pure joy that comes with Elton's voice, he's consistently made an imprint on music in every decade and embraced the changes within the industry.

Post Malone's release of "Take What You Want From Me" featuring the prince of darkness Ozzy Osbourne and rapper Travis Scott, has become a crowd favorite. From the mix of 70s sentimental goodness coupled with more recent talent, it was a match made in heaven. Although the five time Grammy award winner hasn't released new music since 2007 in the album "Black Rain", he took his artistry to other corners of the industry and gave us a performance for the books and our playlists back in time.

The album 'Golden Hour' by Kygo featured plenty of fresh & new artists but also blessed our ears with an incredible sampling from Whitney Houston in her single "Higher Love". The unexpected feature was music to our ears and the perfect ode to the late singer and performer. Whitney's powerhouse vocals in a more modernized twist gave us nothing but chills and a reminder of the true talent from the late singer.

Ice Spice has been taking over the industry with her fresh music, mesmerizing stage presence, and undeniable talent. She collaborated with legendary rapper, Nicki Minaj in her single "Princess Diana" and most recently, "Barbie World" from the original soundtrack. The blend of classic talent from Minaj to an up-and-coming rapper brought with it a true nostalgic moment for longtime fans and we couldn't help but be taken back to all of Nicki's hits and recognize her impact on music.

Singer and songwriter, Lady Gaga is known for her pure heart, incredible vocals, and the undeniable ability to speak her mind through her music. She joined the late Tony Bennett onstage for some of his last live shows and accompanied him in some of his biggest hits. The two joined forces in 2014 for their original album "Cheek To Cheek and once again in 2021 for the release of their deluxe album "Love For Sale". The two have an undeniable artistic chemistry and Gaga transported us back in time to the 50s in the Jazz-inspired piece of art.

American rapper and talented performer, Megan Thee Stallion became a worldwide sensations for multiple singles, specifically "Savage", released in 2020. It was quickly remixed with the addition of entertainer of the generation, Beyoncé. The collaboration between Megan's quick lyrics and raw talent in the rapper space to Beyoncés sultry and recognizable voice, made for a chart topping hit. Two talented female artists, both new and established came together for a Grammy winning record.

We couldn't get enough of BTS and Coldplay's recent work, "My Universe" from Coldplay's 2021 album "Music Of The Spheres". The beloved boy bands gave us just what we needed and mixed nostalgia with contemporary in a good feeling track. The early 2000s Coldplay can easily be heard in this recent release and the influence of the South Korean band gave it the extra vigor we've been needing.

The odes to older generations and more established artists can easily be seen in each live performance and chart topping track from the newer group of artists. These collaborations across generations brings with it newfound fans and an appreciation of the impact they've had on music.
