One of his biggest hits ‘Let You Down’ has hit over 1.2 billion streams on Spotify alone and speaks the words we can all relate to in one way or another. For Nathan, the song unveils the difficult relationship he had with his mother who he tragically lost in 2009. The heart-wrenching lyrics make it clear to us that music is not only made for enjoyment for NF but is in a way his own form of therapy that allows him to process and cope with these difficult feelings. The track brings us the reminder that music can reach deep into our core and give us the courage to speak our story.

On April 7th, the release of NF’s latest album ‘HOPE’ was made available to the public, which includes 13 tracks that culminates into almost 50 minutes of perfection. The studio album not only touches on where he currently stands mentally but also highlights music industry expectations, negative comments, his relationships, and much more. Each track has gained massive recognition, specifically ‘HOPE’, ‘HAPPY’, and ‘MOTTO’. Not only are the beats within each track addictive and motivating but the lyrics are undeniably raw & real.

Let’s dive into some of the EPs.

NF’s biggest hit on the album is within the title of the album ‘HOPE’. The common theme of most of his music revolves around a more downcast view of situations and his personal life. Nevertheless, within this new album, it’s as though we’re seeing him in a new light and with a brand new perspective. This more optimistic and free-feeling version of himself gives us a glimpse into the growth he has had as compared to his previous albums.

The next biggest track, 'MOTTO’ talks about the difficulties he faces within music while highlighting the expectations that chew his ears off. He especially discusses his distaste for how success is viewed in the industry and changing your persona based on success. His ode to his fans that he’ll remain the same relatable artist that began in the industry in 2014 remains true.

‘HAPPY’ is a single we can all relate to no matter where we currently are in life. The trauma & pain we experience, no matter how heavy is something we begin to tune out and become so used to that it almost feels like a comfortable space to be. The accompanying music video can hit the soft spot we all have when it comes to our youth, our upbringing, and its impact on our adult self.

One major theme of his music is surrounded by his upbringing and the impact of the relationship with his mother. The track ‘MAMA’ is a different tune than his previous releases surrounding this topic where now he’s forgiving his mom for what has transpired. NF’s lyrics surround hypothetical questions that are directed to his lost parent and hope that she can rest easy. In previous tracks discussing this topic, he was typically shrouded by darkness and hurt whereas now, he’s found peace with her and hopes she feels the same.

The EP ‘LET EM PRAY’ is another infamous motivating track from NF where he calls out those that didn’t believe in him, talked down, or are consistently hoping he fails. He highlights the uphill battle he has had to make his name, words, and music known to the world. ‘TURN MY BACK’ and ‘PANDEMONIUM’ from the studio album also touch on the same theme of moving forward and succeeding despite the world and circumstances telling you no. NF brings motivation and perseverance to a whole new level, reminding us that despite all of the hate and negative comments, we’re always meant to succeed and will always win.

NF collaborated with singer/songwriter Julia Michaels to curate ‘GONE’, the gut wrenching and relatable heartbreak song that we all need to guide us through. With questions we all want answered, overwhelming feelings we’re plagued with, and coming to terms with what went wrong, this duo hit the mark with this one. It not only is the closing of a chapter within a toxic relationship but also a goodbye to a past version of oneself. Both artists put their soul into this song and got vulnerable to tell their story.

Despite the negative outlook NF was known for having on life and spoken through within his music, his latest album shows nothing but hope and overcoming the pain he has been through. With motivating pieces, shedding light on traumatic experiences, to detailing the difficulty in coming to terms with situations is what makes this album mesmerizing. It shows so vividly not only the heart he poured into this album music but the power these tracks hold for fans to feel someone by their side. We can sense this newfound power and energy coming off each word and can guarantee that fans, old and new can feel the same way.
