As the close of the holidays are mere days away, where musicians both long-standing and new fight for the throne of Christmastime music through covers or iconic pieces of work to original soundtracks, fans are left with a vast array of music to accompany them through the end of the year cheer.

The classic songs, such as Wham’s “Last Christmas”, Mariah Carey’s “All I want For Christmas Is You”, and Bobby Helms "Jingle Bell Rock" have continued to reign supreme on the Billboard charts and amongst our yearly Christmastime playlists. Countless well-known artists’ holiday music from previous decades have remained relevant when December rolls around for their cheery, unique, and fun addition to the household's energy.
Other artists who have dropped their own holiday albums, such as Michael Bublé, Justin Bieber, and Ariana Grande found themselves amidst other classics, such as Brenda Lee, Andy Williams, and Dean Martin, whose voices fill homes across the globe.
Multiple spots on Billboard's Hot 100 Chart have been taken over through the cheery music, such as Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You", which has dominated the #1 spot since its release in 1994. This year, the top 5 spots have been replaced by Brenda lee with "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree", Wham!'s "Last Christmas", Bobby Helms's "Jingle Bell Rock", and Burl Ives "A Holly Jolly Christmas". More current artists, such as Laufey have entered the chart with "Christmas Magic" at #67.
Other musicians today are also getting into the holiday spirit through their own renditions and self-crafted music, like Sabrina Carpenter for “A Nonsense Christmas”, originally introduced in the EP "fruitcake" in 2024 but brought back for its anniversary. Her album included 6 songs, accompanying visualizers, and a recent Netflix special with guest stars, such as Chappell Roan and Tyla.
Beyoncé joined the train of holiday music with her debut of “Cowboy Christmas”, an ode to her hit album “Cowboy Carter”. She rang in the season with an iconic halftime show performance at the Texans vs. Ravens game on December 25th. She tore the stadium down with a jaw-dropping performance and surprise appearance by her daughter, Blue Ivy, Shaboozey, Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, Tiera Kennedy, Reyna Roberts, and Post Malone.

Mariah Carey has since dominated the charts and our playlists each holiday season with her hit single, “All I Want For Christmas Is You”. In addition to climbing to #1 on Billboard’s hot 100 Chart, she hosted a live performance at The Barclays Center this year. As a result of the massive success of the song, many artists have attempted to replicate her infamous song to solidify themselves when the December seasons comes back around, however, none have found their holiday music sticking to the charts or amassing countless streams similar to Carey.
We’ll be seeing more musicians and bands continue to help bring in the holiday cheer with self-written music, covers of iconic songs, and special visualizers with plenty of surprises included each year.
