The iconic Super Bowl halftime performances have held some of the biggest names in music history. From Madonna to Prince to U2 to Beyonce, and more, the most anticipated concert continues to bring on incredible singers to the stage.

The first halftime show that featured live performers was in 1972 which featured Ella Fitzgerald, Carol Channing, Al Hirt and the U.S. Marine Corps Drill Team. The change from marching bands to live singers introduced the audience to a halftime performance like no other and setting the stage for Super Bowl performances to come.
1988 held a show with the Rockettes and Chubby Checker, which was not only mesmerizing but gave the audience a fun and fresh vibe. Not only did he perform his 'feel good' music but was accompanied by the astounding Rockets, and 88 grand pianos. The jazzy yet classy show featured plenty of colorful themes, outfits, and entertaining additions that set a new tone for the rest of history.

New Kids On The Block took the stage in 1991 with various Disney characters in its theme “It’s A Small World”. As Walt Disney World in Orlando was celebrating their 20th anniversary, they gave us a fun and creative performance, which was beloved by fans. The younger feel including dancers, band choreography, and special features from Walt Disney opened up these new additions into the following years.
One of the most memorable shows was Michael Jackson’s headlining gig with the theme: “Heal The World” in 1993. Not only did he leave all of his energy in that stadium with some of his biggest hits but he delivered a beautiful message on one of the largest televised platforms. This halftime performance broke the record for being the only halftime show to have more live audience viewers than the actual Super Bowl and continues to be a fan favorite.

In 1996, Diana Ross stole the show with her extravagant, chart topping performance as she sang her biggest hits including ‘Stop In The Name Of Love’, ‘Chain Reaction’, and ‘Take Me Higher’. Her big energy was met with screaming fans, adoration, and joy, which followed her as she pulled a jaw-dropping and wild exit from a helicopter.

A patriotic and soul-warming performance by U2 as they took the halftime stage in 2002 just a few short months after the horrific 9/11 attacks. This touching tribute made for a crowd-roaring and unforgettable show. Not only did their setlist featuring their biggest songs but the inclusion of the names of those who were lost in the attacks gave us all the chills we needed. This production to this day has a major worldwide impact.

2007 gave us another incredible performance with Prince headlining the infamous show. His energy makes it impossible to turn away from the screen, especially when he’s in his own world shredding it on the guitar. Prince’s set list included covers of ‘Proud Mary’, ‘All Along The Watchtower’, and ‘Best Of You’, which gained mass appraisal from Dave Grohl. The performance finished with his hit ‘Purple Rain’, which ironically was followed by perfectly timed rainstorm.

Beyonce brought a show-stopping performance in the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show with her unmatched energy and biggest hits to date. She was joined by Kelly Rowland and Michelle Wiliams as they sang ‘Bootylicious’, ‘Independent Woman’, and ‘Single Ladies’. Not only is her stage presence exuding confidence and her voice an absolute powerhouse, but she did all of it with intense choreography. To this day, her performance is unforgettable.
The 2022 show, which featured Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, and Mary J. Blige was a worldwide knockout and is still adored by fans everywhere. The legendary Hip Hop performers gave us their biggest hits and it did not disappoint. With odes to the 90s and early 2000s, fans worldwide were feeling the nostalgia.

This year’s halftime show was none other than Rihanna. After 8 years of a music hiatus, she came back to deliver her unbeatable comeback. From performing Where Have You Been to ‘We Found Love’, and even ‘Run This Town’, it was impossible not to sing the words alongside her. Not only did she welcome herself back into music but she announced her pregnancy with baby No. 2 and still gave it her all with a striking performance.
